There’s no denying it, dads play a huge role in their kids’ lives. And sure, we should be celebrated all year round, but Father’s Day is when we really get our moment (or at least a few hours before someone needs help opening a juice box).

If you are anything like me, you might not even remember what you got this year, or maybe you’re just trying to hide your disappointment over another “World’s Best Dad” mug. And hey, while gadgets are cool, they usually end up collecting dust after a few weeks.

Whether this is your very first Father’s Day or your thirtieth, there’s something special about receiving a gift that hits the mark, something you’ve always quietly hoped for. So, in the spirit of wishful thinking, here’s my list of Father’s Day gifts I’d gladly trade all my mugs and socks for.

A go-to cooler

One of my ideas for a good time is cracking open a few cold ones at the beach, so a reliable cooler is a must for me. I want something that can keep things cold for days.

I came across one online that really caught my eye. It has a built-in dry drawer that works like a mini fridge for sandwiches, fruit, and anything I want chilled but not frozen. I mean, I like my beers with burgers and sandwiches, and I love that this cooler won’t make me choose between rock-hard bread from sitting in ice or melted cheese from being stuffed in my backpack.

A pour-over coffee mug

I’m one of those dads who just can’t get enough of the great outdoors, so a practical Father’s Day gift like this pour-over set would be perfect. There are plenty of rugged, durable options out there that are made for life outside.

Unlike the glass and ceramic models we often see, I’m eyeing one made of stainless steel—with a built-in filter. I can just toss it in my pack and enjoy fresh coffee wherever the trail takes me.

Walk all day, feel good doing it

Whether I’m out for a walk or going for a run, a good pair of supportive sneakers helps keep me moving comfortably and keeps my feet aligned with every step. My wife gave me a pair a few years ago, and I’ve been wearing them almost every day since.

Here’s a list of the top running shoes that help keep dads healthy—and their feet happy.

A good-looking watch that’s built to last

I’m really into digital watches with a cool retro vibe—especially ones with a smooth resin band that feels light and comfy on the wrist. It’s the kind of watch that looks great whether at work, out for a run, or grabbing drinks with friends. And it’s not just about looks; I like ones that are tough, too. I saw one with 20-bar water resistance and impact protection, which can handle a drop or splash without missing a beat.

A mug that keeps my coffee hot and beer cold all day long

My wife got me a stainless steel mug last Christmas, and I haven’t stopped raving about how well it keeps my drinks hot (or cold) ever since. That said, I’ve been eyeing one with a base that fits perfectly in most cup holders, making it way easier to bring along when I’m running errands. A leak-resistant lid is a must, too, so no spills while driving.

A 3-pack of craft hot sauces with a range of heat levels

I love kicking up the flavor in my food with a fiery trio of hot sauces, especially when there’s a heat guide to help me ease into the spicier stuff. The mix of flavors and spice levels, from the milder classic to the ones that really bring the heat, definitely keeps things interesting. All I need now is some pizza and a cold beer to go with it.

Tickets to concerts or sporting events

If you’re stuck on what to get, a Ticketmaster gift card is always a great option—it lets us pick from thousands of events, whether it’s concerts, sports, or a stage play. I got my wife Coldplay tickets last year, and it was a total win. She’s a huge fan but had never seen them live, so I surprised her with tickets for the both of us, and she’s still talking about that night!

Pack up and drive

Load up the car, turn up the music, and take me to see the scenic route. Whether we are headed to the beach or the nearest picnic spot, it’s the kind of trip that’s bound to make lasting memories.

Surprise me with a sweet homemade treat

A dessert made at home always tastes better. What better way to satisfy my sweet tooth than with a rich, decadent dessert, no question. So, whether it’s a tray of thick, chewy brownies or a perfectly baked pie, nothing beats the feeling of being surprised with my favorite treat, especially when it’s made with love. You’ll definitely see my face light up!

Share a plate (or five) with me at a food festival

Whether it’s food trucks, a Mercato, or an all-you-can-eat buffet, hitting up a food festival or market is a fun way to celebrate Father’s Day. We can sample various dishes from different cuisines—or zero in on my favorites. Either way, it’s going to be a delicious time.

Let’s go see some live music

Whether it’s jazz or alternative, going to a live performance on Father’s Day would really make me happy. And who doesn’t love ice cream? Maybe treat me to my favorite flavor after the show, or maybe grab a pint for me to take home.

Here’s what I got for Father’s Day this year

For Father’s Day, my wife surprised me with two pints of my favorite beer and a personalized card from my 12-year-old artist-daughter. But the real treat came the day before. She and our two girls took me to a craft beer festival packed with local brews. I sampled everything from dragonfruit sour ales to hibiscus lagers and even a Nutella stout. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better time.

You can easily personalize these ideas for your dad, grandpa, stepdad—or whoever you’re celebrating this Father’s Day. This might just be the perfect year to go the extra mile and make him feel truly special. Whether you’re living under the same roof or miles apart, there are plenty of meaningful ways to show you care. From hands-on craft workshops to unforgettable experiences like racecar driving, I bet there is something out there that will help make your dad’s  Father’s Day one to remember.
